Mary Alice Falkenstein
FITCHBURG – Mary Alice Falkenstein, age 95, died on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022. She was her sweet, charming and funny self until the end. Born Mary Alice Kissane on May 17, 1927, to Ralph and Alice (Farrell) Kissane, she grew up on Orchard Street and attended St. James Elementary and Edgewood High School. As a child she loved ice skating at Vilas Park and, throughout her life, enjoyed the Henry Vilas Zoo.
Mary Alice began her career at Farmers Mutual Insurance (now American Family), where she met Eddie Falkenstein. They married in 1948 and lived in Madison and later, Fitchburg. After Eddie’s death in 2015, she moved to The Arbors at Oak Park Place independent living in east Madison.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Kissane Smith; and niece, Kathyn Smith Cook. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Bill) Lueders; great-nieces, Jennifer Wells and Alison Bradford; and many other relatives and friends.
Mary Alice had a gift for friendship. She listened. She was curious. She appreciated people for who they were. The family thanks nurses from Agrace HospiceCare who helped her stay at home.
Memorials may be made to Friends of Wisconsin State Parks. A gathering will be held at a later date at Oak Park Place. Contact email@example.com for details.
