Marvaline Alice Brewer

Marvaline Alice Brewer

Marvaline Brewer, age 89 of Richland Center, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.

Marvaline Alice (Gillingham) Brewer was born on November 26, 1924 in Richland Center, WI to L.G. Gillingham and Irene (Poole) Gillingham. She graduated from Richland Center High School in 1942 during which she nurtured her love of music by being active in band. After taking two years off to work as a phone operator, she went on to graduate from the Richland County Normal in 1946. Afterward, she accepted a teaching position at the one-room school in Henrietta where she taught until 1949.

She then made the move to the one-room school at Buck Creek where she taught from 1950 to 1952. It was there that she met the man who would become her husband, Norman Brewer. Norman and Marvaline were married on 06/05/1951, traveling to DuBois, PA to be married by the Rev. Dr. Richard Blews — the same minister who married her parents in 1920. Marvaline was active and enjoyed family, “futzing” outdoors, and serving as Chaplain in the Black Hawk Chapter of the DAR. But her lifelong love was music. She sang at many weddings and participated in church choirs for most of her life. Marvaline also loved animals, and even after dementia robbed her of many memories, she could still recall the names of her beloved pets.

Marvaline is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Norman, daughter Robin, son-in-law Salah, and sister Bobby Jo all of Richland Center. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including special nephews and niece Jim, Brandon and Michele Brewer.

Her cheerful smile will be missed by family and friends alike.

A visitation for Marvaline will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. Memorials in her name can be made to Ocooch Mountain Humane Society of Richland Center.

The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting with arrangements.
