Marshall wins Div. 3 girls basketball championship
School's first girls title since 1976
ASHWAUBENON — Mia Morel scored 21 points and had nine rebounds to lead Marshall to a 63-55 win over Amherst to win the WIAA State Girls Basketball Division Three championship Saturday at the Resch Center.
Fellow freshman Anna Lutz scored 16 points and added 11 rebounds as Marshall won its first girls basketball state championship in 41 years.
Marshall jumped out to a 14-4 lead but Amherst came back to lead at halftime 31-30.
The Cardinals scored the first 11 points of the second half to take the lead, but Amherst rallied to get to within a point at 54-53 with 1:04 left.
Marshall hit nine free throws the rest of the way to seal the win.
Alex Koeller won the state title in his first year as Marshall’s head coach, compiling a record of 27-1.
