MILWAUKEE — A long-time Marquette University professor was hit and killed by a vehicle on the school’s campus Tuesday night, according to a series of tweets from the university’s president Michael Lovell.

“Today I ask you all to mourn the tragic loss of Dr. Joe Daniels, Keyes Dean of Business Administration, who was fatally struck by a vehicle on campus last night. Joe was a campus fixture for more than 30 years, and I was honored to call him my friend,” Lovell wrote in a tweet.

According to WDJT in Milwaukee, the crash happened around 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of 10th Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Authorities say Daniels was crossing a main street on campus when a 20-year-old female driver struck him. The Journal Sentinel says the woman was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk.

Lovell went on to say the university will hold a campus-wide prayer service Wednesday afternoon in remembrance of Dr. Daniels.
