Marquette beats Savannah State 71-51
Golden Eagles win 1,500th game in school history
MILWAUKEE — Marquette 71, Savannah State 51: Vander Blue and Davante Gardner each scored 14 points and the Golden Eagles pulled away in the second half to defeat the visiting Tigers.
Junior Cadougan finished with 11 points for Marquette (7-2). The Golden Eagles, led by Gardner and Steve Taylor Jr. (10), outscored Savannah State 33-13 off the bench.
Savannah State (5-6) led by one with eight minutes to play in the first half and trailed by just four in the waning minutes of the half before Marquette took 34-26 lead at the break. The Tigers’ first points of the second half didn’t come until 12:12 remained, and the Golden Eagles led by 17.
Rashad Hassan scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, leading the Tigers with 14. Arnold Louis followed up with 10 points and 11 boards.
Marquette outrebounded Savannah State by a 40-20 margin.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The teams combined to make just three of their 22 shots from 3-point range. … Marquette won its 1,500th game in school history, becoming the 43rd team to reach that mark. … The Golden Eagles are now 4-0 all-time against the Tigers and 26-0 all-time against MEAC opposition.
