Marlene I. Updike
Marlene I. Updike, 81, of Cuba City, WI passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville, WI.
Services will be at 11am on Monday, September 10th at United Methodist Church in Cuba City, WI with Pastor Dan Verdegan officiating, a private family burial will be held at a later date at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cuba City, WI. Friends may call on Sunday, September 9th from 4-8pm at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI.
Marlene was born on March 21, 1931 in Crawford County, WI to Walter & Marvel Moran. She married her lifelong partner Eldon Updike on April 18, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Boscobel, WI. Together they raised three children: Ed, Jean and John. She worked at JC Penney’sand later with Eldon in the real estate and auction business for many years. They moved to Cuba City in 1966 and continued their auction and real estate work. They moved to Las Vegas in 1989, they started their own mobile home sales company and ran it for many years. They moved back to Cuba City, WI in 2003 and semi-retired in the senior apartments, which they managed for a couple of years. She and Eldon helped their nephew, Stan Updike with some auctions in the area.
Her greatest pleasures were her family, friends, playing cards, bingo, cooking and traveling. She was a member of the Boscobel Methodist Church until moving to Cuba City, where she became a member of the United Methodist Church. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Eldon; 2 sons: Edward (Carol) of Cuba City, WI, John (Amy) of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Jean (Tom) Lilley of Cuba City, WI; a brother, Dallas Moran of Seal; Beach, CA; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, LaVerne Moran. In lieu of flowers a Marlene I. Updike Memorial Fund has been established.
