Marjorie E. Hoppe

Marjorie E. Hoppe, 91, of Platteville, formerly of Gilmanton and Bayside, WI, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville.

A celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Zayna Thompson will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville, immediately following the celebration of life. Friends may call from 10:30 until the time of the celebration of life at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hoppe/Connolly Families Scholarship Fund, Dubuque Bank & Trust, 2196 Holliday Drive, Dubuque, Iowa 52002. This scholarship fund for Platteville High School students is being established in appreciation to Dr. Michael Connolly for his concern & care given to Marjorie over the past nine years.

Marjorie was born on September 22, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Louis and Mae (Husak) Hamann. She was married to Jerome Moderski in January 1944. He preceded her in death in March 1945 when he was killed serving the United States during WW II. On October 29, 1955 she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Hoppe in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2005, two weeks after their 50th wedding anniversary. Marjorie worked as a bookkeeper for American Appraisal. Later, she was employed by the Schlitz Brewing Company where she worked as a secretary. For many years she did bookkeeping for her husband’s Tool and Die business. She enjoyed sewing, bird watching, especially Humming birds. She cared and loved her family deeply.

Marjorie is survived by two children, Gail (Kurt) Sommerfeld of Mequon, WI; Neal (Diane) Hoppe of Platteville; four grandchildren, Ryan (Samantha) Sommerfeld of Byron, MN; Sara (Matthew) Plew of Brown Deer, WI; Carla and Laura Hoppe of Platteville; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Dayton Plew. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to give a special THANKS to Park Place Assisted Living, Platteville, Dr. Connolly and the staff of Medical Associates and the staff at Southwest Health Center Hospital for all of the special care given over the past years to Marjorie.
