Marilyn A. Baumgarten

MADISON-Marilyn A Baumgarten, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at Oak Park Place.

She was born on Feb. 28, 1937, the daughter of Ernest and Doris (Erickson) Strand in Madison, WI.

After graduating from Madison East High School in 1955, Marilyn attended Trinity College. On Oct. 26, 1963, she married Paul Baumgarten in Madison. He preceded her in death in 1986. Marilyn had been employed with the University of Wisconsin for 28 years before her retirement. She was a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church and was their church organist for over 63 years. Marilyn also belonged to numerous singing groups within the church and was recently honored for her dedication to the church and for her love of music.

Marilyn enjoyed traveling worldwide and also throughout the United States, but she loved most spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, David (Joyce) Baumgarten; her daughter, Robin (Stephen) Dejewski; three granddaughters, Ashley Matthias, Danielle (Chris) Bartow, Hailey Kleppe; a grandson, Isaac Baumgarten; her brother, Robert (Karen) Strand; her sister, Nancy (Bruce) Moltumyr; her sister-in-law, Katherine Strand; and other relatives and many friends In addition to her husband Paul, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Fred.

Funeral services will be held at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, 301 Riverside Dr., Madison, at 11:00 am on Friday Dec. 9, 2016, with Rev. David Carlson presiding. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and also on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Evangelical Free Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you for their loving care to the staffs of Heritage Monona Assisted Living, Oak Park Skilled Nursing & Memory Care and also Heartland Hospice.
