Marie Anna Butz
Marie Anna (Totenhagen) Butz, 97, of Fort Atkinson, WI, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek where her children, grandchildren, some great grandchildren were taking turns at her bedside 24/7. She was loved, there was no doubt.
She was born on February 27, 1917 in Elgin, IL daughter of the late William and Anna (Plote) Totenhagen. Her whole life she was a homemaker, loving her garden and her flowers, but nothing made her happier than having her family around.
Marie married Roy H. Butz of Bartlett, IL on March 31, 1935 in Elgin, IL. They moved to Wisconsin in 1974 from Bartlett and were engaged in dairy farming. They also became members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Marie is survived by four sons, Ronald Roy (Dierdre) of Barrington, IL, Gary William (Dianne) of Marengo, IL, Russell Allen (Nancy) of West Hills, CA and Stephen Douglas (Kathleen) of Bradenton, FL; daughter, Patricia Anne (William) Smith of Antioch, IL; 18 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren (2 on the way); 7 great great grandchildren (one on the way); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna Totenhagen; husband, Roy Herman; son, Robert Christ; daughter, Doris Marie; sister, Frances Kothe and her great granddaughter Emily Kathleen.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, December, 16, 2014 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 301 S. High Street, in Fort Atkinson with Rev. Paul A. Scharrer and Rev. Michael D. Duncan co-officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the church until time of service. Burial will follow in Cold Spring Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church and School or to Rainbow Hospice, 147 S. Rockwell St., Jefferson, WI 53549.
The Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
