Margaret was born on July 24, 1929 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of John and Catherine (Crimmins) Cox. She attended St. Rose Elementary School and Cuba City High School. On August 26, 1950 she was united in marriage to Calvin J. Weigel of Platteville. Together they farmed for 36 years until Calvin’s death on December 7, 1986.
“Peggy” as friends often called her, enjoyed the life of farming. In 1989 she was selected as Senior-Outstanding Farm Wife of the year. The years, as the children grew up were the greatest times of her life. She loved her family very much! All their 4-H, church, school and FFA experiences were great. All seven children loved the farm, the girls enjoyed milking and doing the chores as well as the boys enjoyed it. To have five sons receive the American Farmer Degree was great! She was also so proud of her daughters and their husbands, Karen and Richard Heer owning Heer Oil, Platteville, and Susan and Dennis Rusch farming in Reedsville, Wisconsin.
She is survived by her seven children, Karen (Richard) Heer, Susan (Dennis) Rusch, Steve (Nancy) Weigel, Jim (Suzanne) Weigel, Mark (Rita) Weigel, Tom (Kelli) Weigel, and Tim (Marla Kilburg) Weigel, 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Weigel, parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Alice Weigel and Bernice and Lester Tischhauser.
