Man Taken Into Custody After Fort Atkinson Police Standoff

A man has been taken into custody after a standoff with police Monday in Fort Atkinson.

Fort Atkinson police said they received a call about 9:45 a.m. Monday about a suicidal man, and when they went to check on him, he barricaded himself inside his home and would not come out.

Police said they had information that Donald Lewis, 49, had guns in the home in the 600 Block of South Main Street.

Police said the SWAT team was contacted and they went in to take Lewis into custody. Police said they were at the scene for about five hours Monday before Lewis was taken into custody.

Police said they asked the school district to delay the release of students at Purdy and Luther elementary schools and Fort Atkinson Middle School as a precaution.
