Man steals two cars, damages buildings, multiple vehicles during rampage
GREENVILLE, Wis. — A man stole two vehicles, briefly kidnapped a 13-year-old girl and rammed his vehicles into various buildings and vehicles near the Town of Greenville Thursday evening.
According to an Outagamie Sheriff’s Department news release, police responded to a reckless driver complaint near State highways 76 and 96 before being called to an accident nearby at Glenview Drive and State highway 96. Deputies discovered a black Cadillac Escalade had rammed an Appleton International Airport safety truck whereupon the driver stole a Ford F-150 truck from a bystander who had stopped to assist in the accident.
A 13-year-old girl and a rifle were inside the truck at the time and other agencies responded to save the girl before she was found at a gas station at the intersection of State highways 96 and 76, according to the release. Tracking the girl’s phone, which was still inside the truck, police located the vehicle in a field near the Town of Dale where the driver attempted to escape but was apprehended.
Police believe the suspect began his crime spree in a red sedan, which he intentionally rammed into a house, injuring the occupant before ramming the car into five different overhead doors attached to different outbuildings on the same property. The suspect then went to another residence and drove through a garage door and stole the property owner’s Escalade.
The suspect was charged with kidnapping, reckless endangerment, multiple counts of vehicle theft, multiple counts of damage to property, hit and run causing injury, burglary and disorderly conduct. Police found methamphetamine on the suspect and believe drug use was a factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
