Man sentenced in Green Co. bookmaking operation
Rast gets suspended sentence for taking bets on football, basketball
MONROE, Wis. — A Green County judge has withheld a sentence on a Monroe man who pleaded no contest to running an illegal bookmaking operation between 2005 and 2007.
Werner Rast was charged with taking bets on football games and the NCAA basketball tournament for three years.
Judge James Beer withheld the sentence, and instead placed Rast on probation for 18 months on all 10 counts. Beer required Rast to pay all fees, not consume any alcohol or drugs during that time, and not be involved in any gambling over that time.
The court also required Rast to pay a $10,000 fine in connection with one of the charges in the case.
