Man passed out at wheel of running car facing 5th OWI, police say
MADISON, Wis. — A man who was found asleep behind the wheel early Friday is facing a repeat drunken driving charge, officials said.
The Madison Police Department said said a passerby called for police after coming upon a vehicle that was stopped in traffic on South Pleasant View Road just past Midtown Road at about 2:30 a.m.
The car was running, and the driver appeared to be asleep, according to the report. Officers made contact with 50-year-old Stephen J. McDonnell, of Madison, who was in the driver’s seat.
He was arrested on suspicion of his fifth-offense of drunken driving, police said.
