Man killed in wrong-way crash with semi on Highway 14 in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG, Wis. — A man was killed Wednesday night after a wrong-way crash with a semi-truck, Fitchburg police said.

Officers and EMS crews were sent to the southbound lanes of Highway 14 near Lacy Road around 11:15 p.m. Police said the man was found dead at the scene after he was ejected from an SUV.

An investigation found that the man was driving northbound on Highway 14 when his SUV collided with a southbound semi-truck. Officials said there was heavy fog in the area at the time of the crash, but did not know if weather played a role in the incident. The semi driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

An investigation remains open. Highway 14 was closed at the scene of the crash for about four and a half hours. The name of the driver who was killed was not released.
