Man injured in west side shooting
Police respond to shots fired Sunday night
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police said a shooting on Madison’s west side late Sunday night has sent one man to a hospital with injuries to his back.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday near the corner of Theresa Terrace and Bettys Lane on Madison’s west side.
According to police, officers received calls for five to seven shots fired in the area, but no one was found when they arrived at the scene.
Less than hour later, police said a 21-year-old entered an emergency room at a local hospital with an injury to his back. Police learned the victim has been in the vehicle that had been shot at on the west side earlier.
Police said they believe someone in a large group pulled the trigger, but it’s unclear who or why they did it.
“Certainly, there have been some issues in that general neighborhood going back several years. We’ve been working with the good residents of that neighborhood. Often times, those who come there or were causing trouble, don’t live in the area,” said Joel DeSpain, spokesman for the Madison Police Department.
Police said they believe an incident happened earlier in the evening, and investigators are questioning the victim and witnesses.
