Man injured in belt-buckle beating outside bar

A downtown Madison resident suffered facial injuries in a fight outside a bar Tuesday night.

Madison police said a 20-year-old man was at a bar on the 300 block of West Gorham Street at 11:46 p.m. when he first had contact with 22-year-old Ignacio Mota-Bartolo of Madison. Police said Mota-Bartolo made derogatory remarks about the 20-year-old’s girlfriend.

Police said that when the man and his girlfriend left the bar, Mota-Bartolo approached them, ripped off his belt and swung it at the man’s head.

Someone called police, and Mota-Bartolo fled, according to the report. The 20-year-old was hit in the face several times with the buckle. Officers found Mota-Bartolo a short time later and took him into custody.

Mota-Bartolo was arrested on suspicion of battery and disorderly conduct while armed.
