Man Gets 23 Years For Portage County Killing

A 20-year-old Bancoft man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for fatally stabbing a woman after he was asked to leave a Portage County party.

A jury found Tyler Dahms guilty in January for first-degree reckless homicide in the death of 37-year-old Karen Dombrowski in the Town of New Hope.

He was also found guilty of second-degree attempted homicide in the stabbings of her brother-in-law Kenneth Dombrowski. They acquitted him of attempted homicide charges in the stabbing of her husband Michael Dombrowski. They both survived.

Dahms’ attorney claimed it was all self-defense.

Besides the 23 years in prison, WSAW-TV reported he was also sentenced Wednesday to nine years extended supervision.

The judge ordered him to write an apology letter to the victims and undergo a psychological evaluation.
