Gino Sherman

A 40-year-old man was found living in the home of a 72-year-old Madison man who was on vacation, according to a release from Madison police.

The daughter of the man who owns the home on Jefferson Street called police Thursday afternoon when she noticed a bottle of steak sauce on a backyard table and saw that the grill had been used. She told police that the patio furniture was rearranged and that she looked inside to see that there were dishes in the sink and a Crock-Pot on the counter.

Police said an officer arrived and used a flashlight to spot a man at the kitchen table. The woman told police that she didn’t know the man.

Police said the man, Gino R. Sherman, 40, seemed very much at home, and tried to tell the officer that the house was his and that he had lived there a long time.

Officers said they found empty liquor and beer bottles scattered about, along with a partially consumed bottle of wine.

Sherman was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass to a dwelling.
