MADISON, Wis. — A man was found dead in an east side condo after a domestic dispute Monday afternoon.

Officers were sent to a residence on Holborn Circle after an 18-year-old woman left the home and told police there was a 35-year-old man inside who pointed a handgun at her and threatened to kill her, according to the incident report. Police said a shot was fired during the altercation but the victim was not hurt.

Based on the woman’s statement and the man’s lengthy criminal history, police developed probable cause to arrest him on charges of second-degree reckless endangerment with a domestic enhancer, possession of firearm by felon, false imprisonment, disorderly conduct and felony bail jumping.

Officials tried to negotiate with the man from outside the home, but police and neighbors heard two gunshots from inside.

The report said police used a robot equipped with a camera to enter the residence and found the man unresponsive with a handgun beside him. Officers walked inside and determined the man was dead from a self-inflicted injury.

The Dane County Medical Examiner will officially determine the man’s cause of death at a later time, along with deciding whether his name will be released to the public.
