Man cited for drunken driving after hitting two-year-old with car in parking lot, police say

MADISON, Wis. — A Madison man was cited for causing injury by drunken driving after his car struck a two-year-old girl early Saturday morning, police said.

According to a release by the Madison Police Department, the incident took place around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex along the 500 block of North Port Dr. This is on Madison’s north side.

The driver, Jarell T. Patterson,25,  told police the child darted out in front of him and he did not have time to stop.

The girl suffered a cut to the back of the head and was taken to the hospital, the release said.

The child’s mother thought her daughter may have lost consciousness at the time of the impact, police said.
