Man attempted to take Janesville officer’s firearm, police say
JANESVILLE, Wis. — A 28-year-old man is facing charges after police said he tried to take an officer’s gun early Friday.
The Janesville Police Department said officers were at a home in the 1300 block of Laramie Lane at 7:30 a.m. on a report of a domestic disturbance.
According to the report, officers were speaking with 28-year-old Trevor Prevatt in a hallway when he lunged at one of the officers.
Police said the officer deflected Prevatt and tried to de-escalate the situation with verbalization. Prevatt told police that he intended on taking the officer’s gun. Police said he knew the type of gun the officers were carrying and said officers would have to shoot him. He began counting down before he was going to follow through with his intent, the report said. Officers used a Taser on Prevatt and he was taken into custody.
Prevatt was arrested and taken to the Rock County Jail. He’s facing a charge of disorderly conduct with a domestic violence modifier and attempting to disarm a police officer.
