Madison Man arrested after Town of Windsor crash

A Madison man was arrested on a charge of sixth-offense operating while intoxicated following a two-vehicle crash that hurt another driver, the Dane County Sheriff’s Department said.

Dane County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a crash at about 3:50 p.m. Monday at U.S. Highway 51 near Mueller Road in the Town of Windsor.

Sheriff’s Department officials said David C. Cockings, 61, of Madison, was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 51 in a Chevy Trailblazer and went off the roadway and struck a road sign.

The vehicle then came back onto the roadway and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a northbound vehicle, according to a Dane County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 29-year-old man from Pardeeville, suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by Waunakee paramedics to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Sheriff’s officials said Cockings was arrested on a felony charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, sixth offense, causing injury. He was also cited for operating after revocation and operating left of center, officials said.
