Beloit death investigation ruled homicide; suspect in custody

BELOIT, Wis. — Beloit police have arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with a shooting that left one woman dead Wednesday afternoon.

Andre Sayles, chief of the Beloit Police Department, said officers responded to the 1400 block of Madison Road for a report of a gunshot victim. When they arrived, officers found a 31-year-old woman who had been shot. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

Authorities have since said they’re investigating her death as a homicide.

“We know it was a domestic situation,” Sayles said. “We’re still trying to work through that with our detective bureau to try and find out the motive in regards to this.”

Police said they arrested the man on tentative charges of first-degree homicide related to domestic violence and possession of a stolen firearm. Sayles said the suspect has minor prior offenses, but officials did not share any other information because their investigation is ongoing.
