Man arrested for OWI after head-on crash in Middleton

MIDDLETON, Wis. — Middleton police say they arrested a man overnight after they smelled alcohol on him while investigating a head-on crash he was involved in.

Officers were called to the crash on University Avenue and Branch Street just before midnight, at 11:49 p.m.

They determined one of the vehicles involved in the crash had been driving the wrong way down the eastbound lanes of University Ave. before hitting another car. The driver of the car that was going the right way was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police identified the wrong-way driver as 25-year-old Alexis Gonzalez-Valdez of Madison. Officers smelled alcohol on him while investigating and arrested him for 2nd offense OWI causing injury.

He’s currently in the Dane County Jail.
