Man arrested after standoff ends in Town of Sun Prairie
Officials: One person in custody following incident
TOWN OF SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — A 44-year-old man was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after a standoff with Dane County sheriff’s deputies in the Town of Sun Prairie ended peacefully.
The incident started at around 3:10 a.m. on Wednesday in the 2700 block of Olin Way. It followed a domestic incident at the home earlier in the evening, authorities said.
One caller reported a suspicious person in a neighborhood just off of County Highway TT, followed by another call about a man with a gun on Olin Way. A man said he and woman were held hostage at gunpoint by the suspect, but both were able to escape the house. The man called from a neighbor’s house.
Deputies searched the residence where the incident occurred and determined the suspect was back inside the house.
Authorities said that a perimeter was set up and negotiators from the Sheriff’s Office contacted the man and convinced him to surrender peacefully. Robert J. Simons, of Sun Prairie, was taken into custody. He will be booked in to the Dane County Jail, authorities said.
County Highway TT was reopened to traffic following the incident.
