Man armed with knife attempts to rob pizza place, police say
MADISON, Wis. — A man armed with a knife attempted to rob a pizza place Wednesday night on Madison’s near east side, police said.
The man entered the Papa John’s Pizza shop at 2604 E. Washington Ave. around 7:10 p.m. and asked for money, according to a release. An employee she said was unable to open a cash drawer, so the robber left empty-handed.
Witnesses said the man was shaking and appeared to be a “crackhead,” police said.
A couple of hours earlier, a man matching a similar description was seen hanging around Home Savings Bank at 3762 E. Washington Ave., according to the release. He went into the bank, looked around and left, but bank employees reported him as a suspicious person since he was not a customer of the bank.
The man is described as white and 25-30 years old with a buzz haircut, and either brown or dark blonde hair. He had facial stubble, and was wearing glasses, a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
