Mallards’ rally falls short
Wisconsin Rapids holds on for 10-8 win
MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Mallards fell behind early and a furious rally fell short as the Mallards lost to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 10-8 Friday night at Warner Park.
Mallards starting pitcher Matt LaMothe struck out the first five batters he faced, but in the second inning, Wisconsin Rapids third baseman Brandon Hohl hit a two-run homer to give the Rafters the lead..
A four-run seventh inning gave the Rafters a 10-2 lead, but then the Mallards began the comeback.
They scored three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth before the Rafters held on for the win..
Augey Bill (2-0) picked up the win for Wisconsin Rapids, while LaMothe (3-3) got the loss.
The Mallards (6-2) three-game winning streak came to an end. The Rafters are now 4-5 in the second half of the Northwoods League season.
