Mallards give up four in the ninth to fall to Alexandria
Blue Anchors win 6-5, get all their runs in the final two innings
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — The Madison Mallards had a victory stolen from them in Alexandria Sunday, as the Blue Anchors scored four runs in the ninth to beat the Mallards 6-5.
The Mallards scored all their runs in the second inning with five runs on five hits and three Blue Anchor fielding errors. Catcher Austin Barr, who went 2-for-3 scored the first run on an overthrow to second.
However, the Blue Anchors scored two runs in the eighth before scoring the four in the ninth, thanks to timely hits, three walks and two wild pitches.
Roman Collins singled to drive in the winning run from third off Mallards closer Tim Black for the walk-off victory.
Starter Christian Taugner went six innings in his fifth start for the Mallards, striking out eight with no walks while giving up four hits and no runs.
The Mallards finish their two game series against the Blue Anchors Monday in Alexandria at 6:35 pm before returning to the “Duck Pond” Tuesday to face the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
