Making music, celebrating history and raising money

It's a Madison weekend
Making music, celebrating history and raising money
Make Music Madison Festival

This is one of those weekends in Madison – and there are more of them every year – where there’s so much good stuff going you can only hope to budget your time wisely.

It starts Friday evening with the annual Rock for Respite benefit at the Majestic Theater. The event is a fundraiser for Gio’s Garden, a therapeutic respite center for special needs kids, started by Gio’s mom, WISC TV anchor Charlotte Deleste. So obviously we’re talking about family here. But we’re also talking about a really valuable community resource.

Saturday features more music…a lot more. Two hundred and fifty-eight amateur and professional musicians will perform for free all over Madison during Make Music Madison. Music is a huge part of Madison’s future…and Make Madison Music continues to be at the heart of it all.

Saturday is also the annual Juneteenth Day celebration of the day the last slaves learned of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a day of history, culture, art, food and yes, music. Should be a great weekend. Hope it doesn’t rain.
