Global Make Music Day is Frida,y and Madison is celebrating with a festival.

More than 400 Madison musicians will give free performances at Make Music Madison. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Alumni Park is one of the 100 participating venues.

On Friday afternoon, there were showcase performances from world-renowned opera singer Prenicia Clifton, who graduated from UW-Madison in 2004, and the Vince Sweeney Band, featuring a 1978 UW-Madison graduate who performs folk-rock tunes.

There is also a public piano at the park so that anyone can join in.

“The concept for the event is: music by everyone, everywhere,” Mary Carbine, the managing director of Alumni Park, said. “So, if you’re amateur or professional, hopefully, everywhere you go, you’ll get a taste of music.”
