Mail carrier investigated after GOP fliers dumped
NEENAH, Wis. — A Neenah mail carrier is under investigation after hundreds of Republican campaign fliers were found in a recycling bin.
Special agent Bob Rukes of the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General tells Post-Crescent Media the post office recovered nearly 880 pieces of political mailings Thursday from a bin at a Neenah apartment complex.
Rukes says the investigation so far has determined “it was just a bad decision involving a postal employee,” but nothing indicating it was politically motivated.
Most of the campaign fliers were “Get Out the Vote” direct mailings from Mike Rohrkaste, a Republican candidate for the Wisconsin Assembly. Rohrkaste reported the incident to the post office after a resident emailed him about the mail.
Neenah Postmaster Brian Smoot would not comment on the carrier’s employment status.
