Madison zoo raises funds for Giving Tuesday
MADISON, Wis. — The Henry Vilas Zoological Society is raising funds in honor of Giving Tuesday, an international day of giving back to the community.
According to a release, the zoo is asking for the community to help raise $10,000 to support operational costs to run the free zoo.
The Henry Vilas Zoo is one of 10 free zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Because there is no admission fee, the zoo relies on guests, supporters and community members.
All donations up to $5,000 will be matched Tuesday by an anonymous zoo supporter.
“A free zoo is not free to operate, and Giving Tuesday is an important part of the society’s efforts to support our zoo,” said Alison Prange, Henry Vilas Zoological Society president.
Last year, the zoo raised more than $20,000 on Giving Tuesday to bring a male Amur tiger to the zoo.
Supporters can donate on vilaszoo.org or call 608-258-9490.
