Madison West High School cancels two football games due to health protocols

MADISON, Wis. — Madison West High School is canceling its next two football games due to health and safety protocols.

The Regents were scheduled to play Middleton on Friday night and Sun Prairie next Friday. Now, neither game will be played.

Middleton and Sun Prairie could still play the next two weeks if they can find opponents on short notice.

On Wednesday, the Madison Metropolitan School District reported West High School had the highest number of students and staff who had to quarantine due to be close contacts for COVID-19 in the last two weeks. According to the district’s COVID data dashboard, a total of 142 people were considered close contacts in the last 14 days.

Madison West has started the 2021 season 0-4 and lost to Verona last week, 49-18.

Their first game back after the two-week layoff is scheduled to be against Beloit Memorial on Friday, October 1st.
