Madison ranked as top city for successful aging
Ranking comes as no surprise to Madison Senior Center organizers
MADISON, Wis. — A first-of-its-kind study ranked Madison as the No. 1 city to live in for successful aging, according to a release.
The ranking comes from the Milken Institute and looked at more than 350 cities.
The ranking came as no surprise to the people at the Madison Senior Center, which is one group that gets funding from the city to help adults 55 years or older.
“We have over 250 programs a month, everything from Facebook to Skype to philosophy to managing your money,” said Pat Guttenberg, with the Madison Senior Center. “I’m not surprised because the Madison Senior Center’s motto is promoting successful aging.”
The city gives about $650,000 every year to various programs through the center for senior services.
Other cities that rounded out to the top five in the study include Omaha, Nebraska; Provo, Utah; Boston; and Salt Lake City. The Milwaukee, Waukesha, West Allis area is ranked No. 29 on the list.
