Madison police warn of credit card scam
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police issued a warning to the public following a credit card scam incident in Brown County in which two individuals used credit card skimmers to steal shoppers’ information.
In November, a male and female attached a credit card skimmer to a self-checkout station at Woodman’s on Duck Creek Parkway in Howard, Wisconsin. Skimmers are used to steal shoppers’ credit card information and PINs in order to drain their bank accounts. In the Brown County case, the skimmer was placed on top of the legitimate card reader.
Police do not yet know if the skimmer found at Woodman’s picked up any sensitive information.
Madison police suggest you make sure the card reader in every aisle look the same and tug at the card reader to make sure it doesn’t fall apart easily, as it would if it had been tampered with.
