Madison police share photos of second suspect in State Street sexual assault

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police have shared new photos of the second man believed to be involved in a downtown sexual assault in late July.

Authorities said the attack happened in the early morning hours of July 24; the woman who was attacked was reportedly waiting for an Uber in the 500 block of State Street.

A criminal complaint filed against 22-year-old Ivan Smart — who was arrested a few days after the assault — alleges that Smart and the other man involved  touched and grabbed the woman in a sexual manner without her consent as she waited for her ride.

Smart was later charged with one count of first-degree sexual assault and one count of false imprisonment as a party to a crime, according to online court records.
