MADISON, Wis. — Madison police are searching for a stolen SUV used as a getaway vehicle following a Walgreens theft early Friday morning.

According to the incident report, a resident from Madison’s north side originally called and said his Land Rover was stolen from his driveway.

Officials said the SUV was later seen being used as a getaway vehicle after an alcohol theft case at the Walgreens on 7810 Mineral Point Road at 2:12 a.m.

Employees said a teen boy walked into the store, took two bottles of wine from a shelf and started to chug them. Workers made contact with the teen, who tried to hide a bottle in his pants but left both behind as he ran away.

Police said several other teens entered the store and were looking at the alcohol area, but officials said they took off after workers approached them.

The report said the teens all got into the SUV, and an officer later spotted the vehicle on North Gammon Road. Police said the officer tried pulling the vehicle over but the driver sped off.

The officer did not chase the vehicle due to the police department’s policy.
