Madison police respond to suspicious package in parking lot of Hartmeyer Ice Arena

MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Police Department responded to a suspicious package in the parking lot of a local ice arena Wednesday.

According to the incident report, Madison police were sent to the Hartmeyer Ice Arena at 5:04 p.m. after a report of a suspicious package outside.

Officials found the package after arriving to the scene and set up a perimeter. Nearby businesses were also locked down and evacuated.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and the Madison Police Department’s Explosive Device K-9 helped with the investigation.

The package was deemed non-explosive after X-ray testing was conducted, and the parking lot was later cleared and determined safe.
