Madison police investigate attempted sexual assault near bus stop

Madison police said a man tried to violently assault a 17-year-old girl as she stepped off a bus on the city’s east side late Monday evening.

Police said the incident happened at the corner of North Thompson Drive and Mesta Lane near Sycamore Park just after 10 p.m.

According to police, the girl was initially enticed by the man as she stepped off the bus, but the man then came from behind and attempted to violently assault the young woman.

Police said the girl was able to fight free and break away from the man, which caused him to run away.

Police describe the alleged assaulter as a black man approximately 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches tall with dreadlocks.
