Madison Police Capture Topless Shoplifter At Mall

A woman who police said tried to walk out of a Madison mall with stolen bakeware and cologne lost her shirt while trying to get away from security guards, according to Madison police.

The incident happened at the Boston Store at East Towne Mall last Friday just after 4 p.m.

According to police, Daviette Whitney Dykinga attacked the security guard at the store as she tried to get away with about $150 in stolen merchandise.

Police said that when Dykinga was approached about the stolen merchandise she had concealed, she became violent and was reported to have punched the 29-year-old security guard so many times that he was forced out to the parking lot.

Police said the guard grabbed Dykinga’s shirt to keep her from getting away, and she ran out of the store topless.

Police said she was located a few blocks away on Lien Road wearing nothing but her underwear. Police said Dykinga told police, “I shouldn’t have done this. Why couldn’t I get away?”

Madison police said Dykinga had stolen merchandise from multiple businesses, including Banana Republic to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Police said she was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and retail theft.
