Madison police asking for help identifying person of interest in several thefts

MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Police Department is asking the public for help in identifying person of interest in several recent theft cases.

According to an incident report, four attempted theft cases happened Wednesday afternoon at West Towne Mall and Walmart on Watts Road. In the three West Towne Mall cases, a person entered employee only areas of several businesses and took two purses and a wallet. At Walmart, a man took a purse from a shopping cart.

Police said the owner of the purse yelled out and followed the man. He dropped the purse.

A potentially related case took place on Feb. 21 at West Towne Mall, police said. Someone accessed an employee only area of a restaurant and stole two backpacks.
