Madison police ask public’s help in identifying automotive shop robbery

Police are asking for the public’s help in a robbery investigation involving an east Madison automotive shop Wednesday night.

Officers responded around 6:35 p.m. to Wayne’s Automotive at 220 Cottage Grove Road for a report of an armed robbery, according to a release.

On Friday afternoon, police released two surveillance images showing the robber and asked for the public’s help in identifying the man.

An employee told police the robber had been in the shop for some time waiting for a ride, according to police. The man attempted to pay for items, but when the worker opened the cash register, the robber told the worker to keep it open because he was being robbed.

The man fled with an undisclosed amount of money. He is described as white, in his mid-30s to early 40s. He was wearing a green jacket, blue hooded sweatshirt, white shoes, black gloves and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the identity of the man in the photos is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.

Police said no one was injured in the robbery.
