Madison Parks Commission approves Olbrich Biergarten 4-2
MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Parks Commission voted 4-2 in favor of a beer garden in Olbrich Park.
BKM Group, LLC proposed the beer garden months ago, but public concern about alcohol consumption put the project on hold. BKM attended numerous meetings to hear these concerns and made changes in response, including setting the last call for alcohol at 9 p.m. and not allowing loud music on two nights of the week.
Mike Bare of BKM said he would also make sure signs clearly indicated where alcohol is allowed and where it is prohibited in the park.
After about two hours of debate and discussion with community members, the commission approved the proposal. Committee Chair David Wallner said after hours of public meetings, there is still a lot of public support. “Sometimes you just have to have faith,” he said.
The Olbrich Biergarten still has to be approved by the Alcohol License and Review Committee, the Board of Estimates and then the full City Council.
