Madison Night Market highlights POC-owned businesses
MADISON, Wis. – After weeks of planning, 11 businesses owned by people of color are popping up at the Madison Night Market.
The group is known as the Culture Collective, and festival-goers received goody bags to celebrate the grand opening.
“You know, minorities go through a lot running a business. Some people will even refuse to buy from them because they don’t look like them per see,” Business owner Sarah Peeler said. “Just being able to support a minority business does ten times good as going to a larger more commercial type of business.”
The city-led program allows business owners to try out retail locations on a short-term basis at a discount rate.
Two storefronts in the 400 block of State Street house the businesses, each one given a section of a store to set up shop.
