Madison named one of National Geographic Traveler’s best small cities
State Capitol categorized as 'greenest'
MADISON, Wis. — Madcity was recognized in National Geographic Traveler as an environmentally friendly authentic small city, according to a news release.
The magazine included Madison in a list Tuesday of 29 “Cities on the Rise” from its February/March 2018 issue .
George Stone, National Geographic Traveler editor-in-chief, said the cities chosen for the list were drawn from statistics and social media mentions.
“Happy places for locals are also rewarding places for travelers,” Stone said in the news release. “Our index of small cities on the rise is based on unconventional metrics that we think produce happiness: green spaces, coffee shops, breweries, music venues, Instagrammable moments and puppies!”
Madison was named “greenest,” citing the capital city’s many parks, trails and bike-friendly culture. The brief on Madcity referenced the University of Wisconsin Arboretum and Madison BCycle .
