Madison museum commemorates Civil War anniversary
2012 marks 150 year anniversary of war
MADISON, Wis. — On Saturday the Wisconsin Veterans Museum held a special event to commemorate the 150 year anniversary of the American Civil War.
The museum teamed up with the W. Britain Military Miniature Company for an event that included the unveiling of the second in a series of Civil War figures based on flags and artifacts from the museum’s collections.
The day also featured food, a silent auction, and tours highlighting new exhibits and the Battle of Antietam.
“It’s a very exciting time for us, right in the middle of this sesquicentennial, and of course, the strength of our collection probably lies in the Civil War,” said museum director Michael Telzrow. “So it gives us a chance to get some of those things out that are in storage now and people don’t often get to see them.”
Museum officials said the event’s goal is to affirm, acknowledge, and commemorate the role of Wisconsin’s military in shaping our nation’s history.
