Jail and prison bars

A Madison man convicted for possessing and dealing heroin was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison Friday.

Chicago DEA agents caught 37-year-old Melvin Thomas after investigators intercepted phone calls from Thomas to his heroin source in 2010.

The sentence comes on the heels of a three-day federal jury trial that ended on May 20 in Madison.

Thomas was found with a total of 269 grams of heroin and has four drug felonies on his record.
