Madison man accused of downloading, transmitting child porn

A Madison man was accused of downloading and transmitting images of child pornography after authorities searched his home last week.

Edward J. Wesser has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child, which is a felony, according to a news release issued by the state Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation.

Authorities said that a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was passed on to the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force about a screen name and email address tied with online postings of child pornography. Investigators obtained a warrant asking Yahoo to allow them to search the suspect’s account, in which they found emails with child porn images, according to the news release.

Last week, authorities searched Wesser’s home in the 2400 block of Old Camden Square. They said that Wesser admitted to downloading child porn and sending it via email and the Yahoo Messenger program.

Besides Justice Department officials, authorities from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office helped in the investigation.
