For more than 125 years the chief justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court has been the long-serving justice, the senior member of the Court. The statute enshrined in the state constitution has served the state well without complaint. Until now.
A desire by some to remove current Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson from serving as chief justice has led to an effort to amend the constitution to allow the justices themselves to elect their chief.
